There are 2 semis near my mothers, I've always liked them and wouldn't mind buying one, but I've never seen one for sale in 30 years until a couple of weeks ago. It was about £70k less than I expected. Then I looked at the pics...........I want it but can't face the hassle.

Take a room at a time and that's not a bad house at all to renovate, ours was just about uninhabitable when we bought it..

very nice

Some of my favourites
1. I have a look at this one, whenever I'm in Ilkley, & run past it, if I do the 'Ilkley Harriers Trail Race'
The first time I saw it for sale, at some point in the mid-90s, it was £850,000+ back then
The last time, I'm sure it was about £2,000,000??

2, I pass this, on the 'school-run', & when out with the running club
It, allegedly, has connections to James 1st, & has Priest Holes
My wife has been In it, as the daughters go to the same School as ours

3. Another one, near the School, & daughters class-mate lives there, & often passed on club-runs
Built, on a fortune made by gambling & bare-knuckle fighting!!!
Now split into 3 dwellings, but all occupied by members of the same family

4. My wifes aunty lived near this, & I knew of it, from my interests in this style of architecture
The owner was a apparently virtual recluse, she left money for a few trusted friends at the gates, with a list
They'd bring it back, & drop it off there
When she died, & distant relatives were contacted, it went for sale by auction, with public viewing organised
Queues were immense, as barely no-ne had even been in the gardens, let alone the house
I forget how much it went for, but I do recall being saddened by the relative state of decay
It has a Minstrels gallery!!

5. Not that far from my 'LBS', this piece of Art Deco gorgeousness, nestles in industrial Castleford, surrounded by row upon row of terraced housing
Built for a local Doctor, in the 1930 (public access photo)

A vicar I knew years ago bought a retirement house close to an eroding coastline.

He commented it was the only house he knew of that was slowly depreciating in value.
£1,000,000 isn't that difficult. Especially for the older couples/late middle aged couples. Lots of second marriages and people moving from London. If they both have a house in London, there is an easy £800,000+. A bit of planning and the extremely sad loss of a couple of parents and their houses liquidated. Bingo, there is you million and some for renovations!

You notice very few of the people on ETTC are looking to downsize!
Yes a fair few featured are moving from London and are armed with a hefty budget .and the woman always needs a minimum of 15 acres for her horse

I may have a nice house on the market in a couple of years time, I can prove it has hanging room for at least 7 bikes.
