Driven at by Idiot motorist

Today being a reasonable day weatherwise I decided to go for a ride
over the moors on the Lancs/Yorks border, A 45 mile loop I'd done many times before.
The route follows the A640 between Denshaw and Scammonden dam,The route is used
by motorcyclists at the weekends being a twisty road where they can let rip,never had
an issue with them ever,However today some Corsa driver was trying to emulate them,
On the steepest twistiest section i spotted this corsa approaching me
(in fact he nearly rolled it going round the bend about 200 yards in front of me)
As he got nearer he drove from his side of the road onto my side then proceeded
to open his door in attempt to hit me

Luckily I managed to ride onto the grass verge and avoid a collision

What an absolute fruitloop!!!!!!!!
Look out for a blue corsa R 741 FND if he's not wrapped it round a lampost that is
I guess reporting him to the Police would be a complete waste of time,
No witnesses and no actual collision

I'd report him to the police seeing as you have the car's reg number.

if he does it again and has more success, then the police will already have at least one complaint under their belts.

To be honest I'd report something like that. What if he does it again and the next guy doesn't get out of the way so quick?
If all the police do is have a word with him at least he'll know he'll be held accountable.
You never know, he may already have been reported and there may well be a marker against him on the police database?
Worth a go in my opinion.
How would you feel if you didn't and then you read about a bike hit and run in the paper in a few days?

I know the road well and ride up that way pretty regular. Like you, never had any problem with the motorcycles or cars before on that stretch. Thanks for the heads up, I'll keep an eye out for it so I can get out the way if I see it.

It may well be your word against his, but, if he succeeds next time with his peanut behaviour the police will have evidence of a pattern.

glad you are ok and was able to get out of the way in time .....report this as the next person may not be. Shame you didn't have a head cam but the plate number should be enough as it was a deliberate attempt to hit you...there are some knobs about!!!

Another vote for reporting him. Even without witnesses, if someone else has reported him for something similar he can still be charged under the "Moorov Doctrine" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moorov_v_HMA). Or at least he could; if it had happened up here in Scotland! I'm sure there will be an equivalent in English law.
