wierd how you can admit to the offence, by the statement effectively saying you were overtaking without looking properly..

then even admit guilt on the pathetic weak charge of 'death by careless' not 'dangerous' driving. which means a pathetic tiny sentance..

THEN have the cheek to apeal , i dont understand that, apart from 'working the system'..

let alone being worried about this sort of driving attitude when cycling, it's worrying that when driving in the car a nutcase like that might be coming the other way...

I think this case ranks up there with some of the most egregious instances where cyclists have been killed on the roads by maniac drivers where the incompetent CPS and courts have subsequently failed miserably to adequately prosecute or punish these drivers. There ARE so many to choose from.

I hope Mr Robertson Snr as executor of his son's estate succeeds in his attempt to secure a huge award of damages from Rice's insurer to fill the financial loss that Mrs Robertson and children will now be experiencing.

I think this lawsuit is a good step to take and its a shame more families of road victims didnt sue those already proved responsible by a court of law. £300k is not all that much an amount.

The fact remains it was never safe to have overtaken. It also still sounds to me as if he was playing racy-games and someone else paid the price for his stupidity.

If the consequences for careless/reckless driving were far more severe it could only help. If, as the great majority claim, there's nothing wrong with their driving then a change in the law shouldn't matter to them.

An eye for an eye would be a good start. The driver would risk exactly the same consequences as they impose on others.

Hopefully they'll come through on the legal case so that if the law won't keep these people off the road the insurance companies will.
