Its a result which would never have happened if there wasn't video evidence.
I feel for the guy for getting harrassed but you have to be responsible for your actions even under stress. The article paints a picture that he only came forward because his bane became public and not because he felt enough (if any) guilt.

Shouldn't be driving if its affecting him that much.

Anyway "He reported himself to police when his name was made public." - I don't hold so much admiration for handing himself in if he did it after his name was made public...

I still want to see the earlier parts to see how bad it actually was.

Mr Nicholls is utterly remorseful and ashamed of his actions on the day and has offered to pay compensation. He reported himself to police when his name was made public,” Harris said.

Meh, he is only remorseful because he had been so publically shamed. Without the video clip he'd have just bigged it up with his mates etc.

Nicholls was deeply embarrassed by the YouTube clip which had resulted in harassment and a number of vicious messages on his mobile phone, the solicitor said.

Guess they got his number from his farrier website...

Do you know him personally?

Seems to be groundhog day. One can only hope that the various processes that have gone on help keep him out of trouble in future, for his own sake as much as anyone else's.

I'm not really sure why he apparently didn't get a community order as well.

 Any with a visible camera, at least.

100,000 views on that video?

The uploader account has over 1,000,000 views, with only those two videos, and there have recently been some YouTube issues with correctly updating video view statistics, so I suspect his pain and embarrassment is rather worse than he/his lawyer thought.

Are the Police doing anything about the "lying" registered keeper?

Just what I was thinking. If nothing happens, it appears to set a precedent (with that Police force at least) that a driver can invent a previously unreported theft and then get away with anything.

I thought the owner of the vehicle was on record as stating it had been taken without consent as others have mentioned.

Maybe it’s just me, but I’m sick of mindless thugs using bereavement as an excuse for violence. I know we’re all different but I’ve had more than my fair share of deaths of loved ones, when I lost my mother (I was 29, she was 59) I can remember thinking how precious life was, I can remember driving home after watching her die in hospital and taking even more care of other road users than usual – the last thing on my mind was violence. In fact, I’d go as far to say, that if you are truly grieving then a trivial thing such as someone touching your car probably wouldn’t even register, let alone make you get out and lump the nearest person. He’s using the death of his mother as a pathetic excuse in my opinion – I’m sure that’s how she’d want him to act...
