I sent a video into a company thanking their car transporter driver for his considerate driving. They traced the driver and he won a quarterly customer service award for showing the company in a good light . I also make a point of emailing the local bus company when their drivers are considerate. It's a pity their customer service team take about a month to reply to the emails though!

Another excellent piece of driving from a Sainsbury's lorry last night - waited patiently as they saw a pinch point coming up, and overtook with plenty of room.

In amongst the thorns, a rose emerged this morning... two Thompsons lorries driving in convoy; the first one waited a reasonable time and completed a safe pass, but the second had to wait even longer - seemingly happy even though his mate was escaping up the road.

Well played to the both of them.

My only thought is that Thompsons may just be the vehicle and not the company!

Had something similar back in the Autumn with one of the local refuse lorries when I came around a corner and found myself meeting one of the lorries at some deep flood water which across the entire width of the road. The driver did his utmost to ensure that I was not soaked to the skin by a bow wave from his vehicle. I emailed the local Council (Cheshire West & Chester) to say thank you and they sent it on to the relevant sub-contractor who contacted me to let me know my thanks had been passed to the driver.

Two Thompsons lorries with excellent driving - very patient indeed. Must have been the same people as last time.

I'm going to track the company down and say thanks... superb driving.

It is mostly good driving, however it's mostly easy to drive by a cyclist, the road is generally decent width and there might not be any oncoming traffic

It's when you get to one of those situations where bad driving is likely, pinch points, roads where you want to turn right, bits where you have no choice but to hold up traffic a little bit. When someone gives you the time/space in those situations this is when they get the plaudits, especially when it's a HGV.

This approach of rewarding good companies is a great idea. It would be really nice if an organization with enough exposure (the CTC?) set up a website where reports of good and bad driving could be reported. A league table showing the good and bad companies might help spur them on to train and manage their drivers responsibly. For a large company, being able to say "Voted #1 for considerate driving" is a nice little PR coup.

I experience consistently good driving (waiting until it is safe to overtake and leaving plenty of room when they do overtake) from the drivers of the Ruddington Connection buses run by Trent Barton. The latest example was this morning when a bus followed me for some distance, waiting until it was safe to overtake - it was on one of those roads where cars can pass relatively safely but larger vehicles can't, but often do!

Nice email sent to the company:smile:

Edit - I've had a response:

"Good Morning Simon
Thank you for your lovely email.
For me to trace the driver concerned this morning could you please tell me if the bus was heading towards Nottingham or towards Ruddington?
We will then be able to pass on your thanks to the correct driver and send him a commendation.
Thank you once again.
Kind Regards"

I feel all warm and tingly inside^_^

Amazingly had an Alpine Travel bus wait patiently behind me on a dual carriageway yesterday. Not to the extent that I would send them a letter of praise but it was still good to see that the message is getting through.

Never got a reply from JB Rawcliffe, so I hope the message got through.

Also props the the guy who drives the box van that lives near me, he had a few dodgy ones but seems to have got the message as he always overtakes well now and gets the cyclechat approved "thumbs up"
