I want an overall fitness as I get older, cycling does very little for my upper body. The bikes still get well used, swim, ride and gym works well for me. There are certainly many cold, wet and windy days where I enjoy a gym workout over a bike ride.

I enjoy the pleasure of driving a cheap car. I'm going just as fast, probably cornering quicker because I've been trained to drive properly, and have immense smug satisfaction that I'm a hundred grand richer for it

Yup that's why I like the Volvo. 8 years old engine just about run in . Love the twisty roads in N Wales. Fun watching the plums in Clios dabbing brakes all time when I can use gears and anticipation of the Road .

Oh aye, idiots who comfort brake really annoy me.

Mind you, since I retired everything annoys me!

I do that on the winding A82 south from Tyndrum and along the twisty side of Loch Lomond; my best so far is 41.5 miles without braking. Very satisfying and great for the fuel economy too.

The thing that amazes me I guess, is the way we measure a man's success by the kind of an automobile he can afford to buy.
