Dual Brakes ?

Whatever happened to dual brakes on road bikes ? My old racer had these and now I am thinking about upgrading my Hybrid bike. I am looking at CX bikes and touring bikes. But they all have the drop handle bars. I like to ride with my hands on top, hence why I bought a Hybrid in the first place. But now I have seen some really good bikes, but all drop handle bars with no dual brakes. Can you add these yourself ?

We now use cross top levers

They were more hassle to keep adjusted than they were worth, and could be dangerous.

You can get cross or interrupter brakes which work better and do the same thing, these can be added later.

Yes, you can add them yourself. Cross top brakes (not the suicide ones you've shown). Very easy to fit.

Some of them bent if you tried to brake too hard... so people use interrupter levers aka cross-tops now.

Those are suicide levers, well named apparently. The modern equivalent are Interrupter levers found on many cyclocross bikes....see Google.

Easy to add, plenty of bikes come with, e.g. Boardman CX comp from Halfords

I have them on 3 of my 4 drop bar bikes (being a girly wuss and all)
