So, I set my alarm for 5:30 and set of at 5:54am.

That was early enough,

I did 54 miles and was back just after 9am!

I managed to make the club run yesterday , rode to the meet point for 9.15 am and did maybe 70 % of the front riding as im in between the fast and medium group ( i could do the fast but im buggered for the rest of the day ) , after regroup stops and a cake stop i got back at 1.30 pm

Last year I did something similar and not long into the ride I disturbed a tawny owl off its signpost perch. Magical time of the day. I'd suggest to be out riding at least 30 mins before 'official' sunrise - it is still quite light. Do it - you won't regret it.

I had a barn owl flying in front of me the other morning 5 am start, felt a bit rubbish though as I had done a turbo session the night before.

I love early rides, before my injury I'd often set out from home before first light and hope to make Ashbourne for a brekky stop at 'rush hour' a gentle pootle along the Tissington/High Peak trail and waiting for the Bulls Head in Monyash to open would set me up for a great weekend in Derbyshire.
Hope to be trying to go later this year.
