Any other CC in here that use this section of road?

I've had 4 near misses in the past week inc 1 this morning by a plumbing WVM. Who then proceeda to sound his horn at another cyclist to get out if his way.

This section of road with traffic lights, pinch points, bus stops and the school is near suicidal at times.

I use that route everyday.
The only consideration, when travelling toward London is to a) watch out for the road surface as it's a bit 'wavy' b) remember that a lot of the traffic is going to turn left - without necessarily signalling, so position yourself on the outside line of any vehicle in front of you...ready to move across when the vehicle moves, either straight on or left c) be absolutely sure what the traffic in the 'outside' lane is doing and expect a sudden swerve into the lesser populated inside lane...from anyone - not just a black car woman etc. It's your lane at that point and I think the expression is 'strong primary'...very strong. As the road crosses the junction, it's ok to keep to the left and let the 'starting grid rush' depart, but there is a bus stop shortly after and once again, shift smoothly to 'a bus width' or so from the kerb (road is bad around there too) - this will help a bit further along where cars are parked (police cars often!) for the café et seq to the next junction where you employ your extra set of eyes at the junction of Sheaveshill Avenue, where turning traffic doesn't much care about cyclists unless you're really in their face - in the nicest possible way, before continuing along the bombed-out bit of road toward the next set of lights at Kingsbury Rd etc - where there will always be some plank blocking your way to the bus lane...trying to filter without a hope, into the morass of impatients.
It's more or less a defensive yet fairly safe ride, providing your eyes and ears are helping you anticipate. Only one other dangerous bit comes to mind, and that is the turn off at Garrick Road, before the rise to West Hendon. Turning traffic and stuff coming down the outside lane tries to cut across and turn. Don't let it - stay strong to the centre/outside of the lane if you are going straight ahead.

That's my daily route too. I don't have too much trouble before the junction, but as mentioned the road surface is problematic after that section, so I tend to stay out in primary and try to keep up with the traffic if possible, else they just have to wait!
The junction of Sheaveshill is just one of those place that there's a lot going on and you need to be vigilant and be prepared! That road surface down to the Kingsbury Rd. junction is certainly "lively", but there is one smoothish trench running down the primary of the inside lane which I usually take.
The Garrick Rd. turn is between bus lanes so I'm usually in primary with lots of shoulder checks to allow for any misbehaviour. I find that just after the Staples Corner flyover as the road rises it's pretty fast and I tend to get the closest passes of the whole journey in to town. Happy Days :-)

I'm the hi-viz, lights-on day and night nut usually on a silver Merida hybrid, say hi!

As this is a reveal all topic now...my bike is black mostly. 2 Hopes + 2 retina blasters at the rear (forgotten what they are called!) Fixed with bull bars/bar end levers. Bib shorts, Spesh comp shoes, and an assortment of tops...a pink star 'Fridays' jersey is a favourite as it's warm.
Pannier rack with an Altura bag on the top. Not really the scenario for a social gathering though...but if you do your B.T. on the A5, it's as good an intro into the Friday Night ride scene as any...Imagine the Marble Arch end near midnight on a Summer's eve...the heady aromas from the cafés and people meandering...perfect, and a total contrast to daily commuting. All that bit has been resurfaced anyway - as I mentioned in the 'Sunday London Ride' thread in 'Informal Rides'.
If only it was possible to get Kilburn High Road sorted out.
