I can remember some of that that team, I watched them as a schoolboy.
Barrington, Dexter, Cowdry, John Edrich, Brian Close.

And Fred Trueman.
I feel I should know the others too but can't recall them.
I wonder if the wickie, back right, is John Murray as it's not Jim Parks.

49 run 1st innings lead for England - could be significant.

Currently 15 without loss in the 2nd innings. Application needed for the rest of the 4th day (30 overs left).

Meanwhile in Tasmania, Australia were bundled out for 85 and South Africa were 171-5 after day one of the 1st Test.

I missed seeing England bat in the first innings - and have not seen much of Hameed before - I quite like what I can see this morning - none of the elaborate quirks and jumping around in the crease that seemed to be features of Cooks previous partners - seems to have good hands as well - able to give it welly or play delicate shots as appropriate - time will tell

I thought that was Mickey Stewart - padded up for opening batting duties along with Edrich (you can see he has pads on as well)

What would I know though, what with being a stupid Jock... ;)

Here's the team and the players' names:

The 1963 England Test cricket team that played West Indies at Old Trafford (Standing from left): David Allen, Brian Close, Keith Andrew, John Edrich, Fred Titmus and Mickey Stewart. Sitting from left: Brian Statham, Colin Cowdrey, Ted Dexter, Fred Trueman and Ken Barrington

And a bit more research proves me wrong!

Here's the details from that Test:

2-0 to Marmion.

Good call...
...the stupid Jock bit anyway...
Should have got Statham and Titmus.
Keith Andrew I'd forgotten as keeper. Northants IIRC?

I just looked up Hameed's stats on cricinfo - even more impressed - only played 20 first class games - six he hit was only the second one he has hit in first class career
