Eurovision 2017 !

Yes! It's come upon us again. Well, almost... like someone squeezing needlessly close behind you when you're stood at the bar.

Does anyone watch the semifinals? I suppose if you live in the UK you don't know what that's about - and spared the ignominy of failing and not being held to account for your valiant/wishywashy efforts.

Semifinal no.1 has completely passed Cyclechatters by, apparently. Semifinal no.2 is Thursday night (the organisers having, quite rightly, decided that concurrent evenings of eurovision would be too much (too much of what? I'm not sure)) and Norway, my state of residence is competing. They've been complaining that, in rehearsals, their (already) shoot song has been compromised by the mask of one of the performers not lighting up at the denouement. Well, that's showbiz! - in a country physically torn between east and west.

I can't wait for saturday night...

I normally go down the local boozer on karaoke night instead I like supporting local talent.

The big one is a regular fixture in our social calendar with friends and family round and lots of interaction via social media.

The semi's though? Nope. Not round ours.

Very good @GrumpyGregry . I think you get it. If you've moved around a bit, and shared a table, and bottle of wine, with our eurocousins you kind of get drawn into the absurdity of it.

I just hope i can hold out the evening. I'm working late shift the night before, early shift on the saturday, then running for job's relay team late sat afternoon, before congratulatory beers. I just hope there are a few gayers amongst them or, likewise, jolly folk to carry the evening on.

Really? Brexit will rate as badly as singing off-key after invading Iraq? I don't like it, but I'll be surprised if it's actually nul. Nearly half the possible entrants are not EU countries.

I saw a bit of Tuesday's semifinal. The performance of the Portugal entry is interesting. No idea if it's relevant to the song because subtitles weren't in English and my Portuguese isn't that good.

I shan't watch tonight's semifinal but I welcome your tips for which ones to watch out for if they qualify for the final!

I am not bothered by Eurovision, but Mrs Salad and our daughter will be watching, and no doubt facebooking or messengering all sorts of comments about the strange and tuneless "songs" being broadcast.

I will probably take myself off to my music room (a.k.a. the back bedroom) and make some strange and tuneless music of my own, but will spare myself the ignominy of getting nul points by NOT broadcasting any of it.......

Yeah me and the OH will be holing up in front of the TV. Chicken Kiev is being served in honour of last years Ukranian winners. Polish Zurek will be served as starter. The Zurek is in honour of the Polish Milkmaids from a couple of years back, but I'm not sure the OH has caught on yet. I'll tell her after she's eaten it. I guess given the above we'll be on the vodka - Na zdrowie!
