I'm coming from a leaf that we've had in one pedal mode for the last 6 years.

Fortunately the 5 unexpectedly arrived with paddles and so has one pedal driving so I'm just sticking with what I know.

I was a bit disappointed when I realised the R5 did not one-pedal-drive as my MINI did. Mine arrived just before they started adding it to the R5 too. However I have quickly got used to it and actually find the creep can be useful sometimes, especially during manoeuvring. I don’t see why they can’t update the older R5 too OPD - you don’t need paddles (the MINI never had them).

The updated R5 is also coming with facial recognition and driver alertness cameras.

Just a paddle either side of the wheel. As big as I expect they are on other cars that have them?

One criticism of the paddles is that they add even more infrastructure to an already busy area. The cheap audio control stalk reminds me of an old Renault Mègane, where newer cars have been putting audio controls on the steering wheel itself.

Feels awful changing volume on that stalk. The rest of it is pretty good though.

I don’t like the wiper controls. If it’s set to ‘Auto’ you can’t then do a single wipe without changing the mode. Previous cars of various other brands have managed to allow this.

I love the car but some of it does feel quite old-fashioned or cheaply designed.

I agree but weirdly it’s nice to feel like an old car with a modern EV twist. I think 3 years of this then going to Alpine version.

The only bit of the R4 I’m not keen on is the gear shift on a steering wheel stalk. After a few months it’s still not completely intuitive. Other than that I like the mix of manual and screen controls. The voice activated interface with google maps works surprisingly well!

I now struggle going from the i3 to the XC70, feeling around the steering wheel rather than down to my LHS. Gawd knows what'll happen when I start using a Tesla as the main drive...

Mine is set to auto and you can do a single wipe by pushing the stalk up ? (I think that's it - I've not bothered to read the manual - but it works).

Yeah I do think a button would have been easier for the RDN and also give us a P - feels weird without one.
And turning the car off doesn't feel definitive yet. I'd like a button and everything goes off.
