I'm willing to bet it also tells you what's in the update. With VW you just have to guess - which is tricky as nothing changes.

Yes it does and give you a breakdown of changes if its anything more than bug fixes. I can scroll back and see previous update points and what they did

Whereas with VW - nothing. Not that there is any perceptible change anyway. Except for that one update where we got 5 additional very laggy games. When I got the car we were on software 2.1. We are now on 3.8. Unless you have a 2024 or newer car in which case you are on v5. I'm guessing that they will then stay on V5 increments while the new ID4 starts a completely different software version that isn't backward compatible. That's an obsolesence rate of 4 years then 2 years. Compare that with the Tesla software which I think is pretty much backwards compatible for 10+ years.

It's a really stupid way to manage the EV software, and the result of cutting corners on the computer hardware. The 2024 ID4 has a different touchscreen & cpus - it cannot be retrofitted to older models either.

Here's my recent update...
PXL_20250724_113007425.jpg

That took 2.5 minutes to load as well. Even the car has to check itself to work out what the software is. As you can see from the detailed summary, this screen is invaluable!

Seriously - I like my ID4 but the software experience is just killing sales. I wouldn't get another one, and I think many ID4 owners would feel the same way. At the moment I'm deciding whether to continue leasing through the company or to buy a second hand EV - there are some good deals now on the Ioniq 5 Ultimate, Tesla Y, Kia Ev9 etc - or whether to buy though somewhere like Octopus. Prices are falling.

This is my screen of release note model S 2019

You can go to websites like notmytesla and they do a detailed breakdown of the software and when regions around the world will receive them. Most of the world isn't running full autopilot, so USA updates a different

My i4 updates over WiFi where it can then install whilst you are driving. Pretty seamless as it all tends to happen in the background.

I like how the updates are a mix of functional/behind the scenes tweaks as well as changes to the UI making for a better overall user experience.

I’m sure that the ID4 will continue to get some updates and changes albeit within the limitations of the hardware it is running on.

Software updates on cars !! I cant help but think if a manufacturer has to send OTA time and time again for "enhancements" then your more or less a beta tester, geez might even be alpha testing??

My work background is automation and we have our fair share of software updates to deal with more often than not, any updates can and does introduce even more bugs......

Our current EV, will not get anymore software updates other than maps , sounds boring... thats not bad thing though ..... KISS !!

We tried the Mini EV, many things to like about it. Wasn't a practical car for 6ft men, women yes. It was quite quick, but when setting off hard the Mini's front wheel drive would torque steer terribly. It either needs AWD in all models or an easy to set, eco mode which softens acceleration.

We opted for the least powerful petrol engine, which you could nail it on setting off, it would keep smooth traction

My 6'3" pal has a Mini EV - he fits in just fine. Range is less than 100 in his so he has a JCW petrol for road trips that he likes to do.
