Ok, so you wont stand out in a crowd with this, but it is a good looking bike and would fill your requirements...

Just don't forget to make use of this: http://www.evanscycles.com/pages/free-accessories as makes it better value then what I paid for the bike and M520 pedals at £1105 as I got it when they had 10% off all 2012 bikes.

Unfortunately I won't qualify I don't think since they're putting the £1000 in

I've got to ask this, since the rack and panniers have already been bought. Everything was set up ready to tour when I found the crack.

Thanks - if it comes with Ultegra that's good for me since I've got a new set of Fulcrum 5's with an Ultegra cassette sat waiting ...

It comes with SRAM deraileurs, cranks etc according to the article - not Shimano Ultegra?

In between here and there
The One on Evans is showing a bit of mix of components, reviewing it all again and the fact you have a Fulcrum 5 wheelset with ultegra cassette I would lean again toward the Lapierre, you can pick up Ultegra calipers for £80 odd quid, leaving the only non Ultegra being the front 105 Shifter.

This assumes Evans product details are correct, the Lapierre site sugests a SRAM version and 105 version. A couple of retailers list the same spec as Evans though!

OK - spoken with Evans about availability / sizing / equipment and they're getting in the following for me to test ride:

Ghost Race 5000 2012; http://www.evanscycles.com/products/ghost/race-5000-2012-road-bike-ec032425
Specialized Secteur Comp 2012 http://www.evanscycles.com/products/specialized/secteur-comp-2012-road-bike-ec030740 PaulSecteur had some influence there

Both £200 extra, which is probably my limit. All I've got to do is wait for the Ghost to be available, which could be up to 3 weeks. That's my preference of the 2.
