Hi, following on from earlier threads;
http://cyclechat.net/threads/help-cracked-frame-on-bike-1-year-old.93449/ and
http://cyclechat.net/threads/£1000-option-at-evans-suggestions-please.94452/

I've narrowed it down to three possibles:

Lapierre Audacio 500 2012; http://www.evanscycles.com/products/lapierre/audacio-500-compact-2012-road-bike-ec031562#features £300 extra
Ghost Race 5000 2012; http://www.evanscycles.com/products/ghost/race-5000-2012-road-bike-ec032425 £200 extra
Cannondale Syapse 5 2012: http://www.evanscycles.com/products/cannondale/synapse-5-105-2012-road-bike-ec031477 £100 extra

Any thoughts? My req's are for multi-use (Audax/sportive/commuting/touring) and I prefer a 'non-common' brand being an oddball and marketing lecturer!

No longer a Specialized fanboy
I dont know anything about the first 2, but the synapse is suposed to be more of a relaxed geometry than a race bike, which to me is what the others look like. I think this would be useful for the longer rides and commuting duties you say you want it for.

I would factor in £50 to replace the brakes with 105s though.

If you wernt a brand snob, you could get a spesh secteur!

okay I suggested the Audacio in your other thread, but the OCD part of me prefers full 105 on the Ghost, 105 Brake calipers great lookers,as per the cranks. Just need the 105 SPD SL pedals and you are away!

Don't wish to be a doom monger, but I've had four Focus bikes, (all with great write ups, and obviously German), and two had to have frames replaced due to defects. Just saying.
Booo hissss lol don't need that on a buying thread :-)

The older I get, the faster I used to be ...
If you are going by Evans's photos note that the Lapierre is shown with a SRAM Apex groupset - not Shimano 105/Ultegra.

Maybe, maybe not. I take no joy in it, and I appreciate your lol, but I felt obliged to make the balance after the presumption was made that because a bike is German built it was some kind of quality assurance over and above anything else. FWIW Focus bikes are German designed and manufactured too.
I'm sure the bike would be perfect and give years of great service, but it's not right to suggest something is better because of it's country of origin. Just saying :thumbsup:
