When I was about 9 I went to a football match in Stockport with my Dad. The man on the turnstile insisted that all away fans had to pay full price (even me), but the policeman next to the gate decided that wasn't fair and lifted me over the turnstile

Used to sneak into the Odeon cinema in Newcastle all the time in the early 80s. My best "sneak in" claim to fame though has to be Queen (It's a kind of magic tour) at St James Park.

Trains here.

I used to have a mate in Birmingham and I would take a train from Lancaster to visit him. I used to buy an open return ticket. During the journey often there would be nobody checking tickets. At the other end my mate would meet me at Birmingham New Street. In those days you used to be able to buy platform tickets. So he used to buy two platform tickets and, when I got off, he would give one to me. We could then leave the station without my real ticket being checked.

I reckoned on each ticket lasting at least two journeys if not three

I was a nipper when the 10 screen showcase cinema opened in Walsall. A days entertainment could be had for the price of one ticket... if you were crafty moving between the theatres as they changed. Looking back, I think the staff must have known, but decided to let us stay due to the amount of cola popcorn and chocolate we brought.

CAMRA beer festival in Cardiff in 1970's.

Venue is just across from Cardiff Arms Park (no game that day).

15 Swansea students exit Beer Festival after 3 hours and notice that the gates to Cardiff Arms park are open...

Cue impromptu game of rugby with a ball made from plastic bags.

Mrs Salad and I went to a pub yesterday that was obviously converted from an old cinema. Wonderful art deco interior (The Peter Cushing in Whitstable). As there is building work being done to the "foyer", everyone had to enter and leave via another exit, which was obviously the old fire exit down the side of the main building. Which prompted Mrs Salad to recall how her and her friends would regularly bunk into the Saturday morning pictures via the fire doors....

As regards getting into things without paying, I can't say that we have, but this Summer we will again be working as volunteer helpers at Broadstairs Folk Festival, which entitles you to free entry to all the concerts, shows and activities throughout the week, during the hours that you are not working. Great fun!

I accidentally fell through a hole in the hedge and found myself in Glastonbury Festival 1985:whistle:. Some mates of mine also leaned against the hedge and mysteriously fell through the hole as well. Can't do it these days thanks to the security fence, laser guided missiles, etc.

Ha! I can top that

In the early seventies British Railways sold a ticket called a 3D ticket. It came in three portions each one valid as a day return to any station bounded by Stirling, Edinburgh, Carlisle, Chester, Liverpool, York and Scarborough during the seven days after purchase.

I would buy a ticket, sell two portions at 50p each to friends and travel effectively free for the week by avoiding the ticket inspector on trains - they never used to check the toilets on the Mk I coaches and I'd amassed a large collection of platform tickets to get on and of most stations on the routes. I spent three weeks commuting to Edinburgh from Darlington after doing my paper round and using it as a base to visit Glasgow, Ayr and environs to mop up as many locomotives from classes 08, 17, 20, 26, 27, 37 and 40. St Rollox works was amazing as was Ardrossan and Musselburgh which had lines of class 17 locomotives awaiting the cutters torch.

Way back in the 90's me and a friend would often get into some all nighters without paying. One tactic was to walk past the doorstaff looking as if you'd just been taken ill for a while and say, "it's ok, I'm a lot better now". Worked a couple of times.

My friend told me that he simply walked backwards into a club once and was not questioned. I still don't know if I beleive that though.

Then in the 00's I was a doorman for a couple of years and as such could get into lots of venues for free.

I got away with going 1st class once on a train. There were only a couple of people in the car and I wasn't challenged at all. I would certainly do this again if I was on my own and had no one else to embarrass. I mean why cram yourself into a standing room only car when there are seats free? Er, unoccupied.
