The time I crossed a Pelican Crossing pushing a buggy while a motorist sailed through on his mobile is something I won't forget. I was just lucky.

I should point out that I generally ingnore moby drivers. There are so many of them that I don't bother. Every once in a while if it is blatent and I happen to be stopped at lights, I'll make a disapproving gesture, and leave it at that. This 'lady' rolled her window down, initiating the converstation, which was conducted in reasonable humour (we all laughed a bit during it).

Most significantly though, I missed an opportunity for a classic comment and I haven't received an suggestions yet. Now I am annoyed!

The only time anyone crashed into me when I was driving was a girl who I think was using her phone. We were both stopped in traffic, then all of a sudden she got bored and decided to pull away into me.


It cost her £50 to put the car right. I forgot till later that I thought she might have been using her phone (loudspeaker in her lap).

I've been thinking about this thread and similar threads, and I am furious!

Yes, I get people nitpicking over my posts like I was being audited. I get tons and tons of replies.

And yet, I post my average times for my latest training ride etc and no-one pulls me about about my rubbish averages, my whining about a little bit of rain, or that if I took a sightly different route I would have a better work out....why don't you take that harder route, you spineless failure of a road cyclist!!!

Which is where we need to recognise that there are road users who are either too stupid or too arrogant to obey the law, and that we need to address these issues.

We have the technology to render phones unusable in vehicles.

Perhaps in the face on incontrovertible proof that voluntary restraint and enforcement are not going to be the answer this is the way forward.


As for the rest of the suppositions...... mobile phone use is not a stand a lone offence, most of these drivers will also believe they can speed, tailgate, cut corners etc with the same justification that they can cope with driving on the phone

The idiot would be drivingtlike this anyway not in repsonse to being caught on the phone

i think the guy overtaking on the outside of the roundabout was the main one, and i remember you got a lot of comments on that one.

by the way, i wasn't trying to have a go, i could spend hours watching these clips if it wasn't for the fact that they give me terrible motion sickness.

We don't have speed limiters, we don't have sensors to stop cars leaving less than a 2 second gap, we don't have many things...

What happens when a passenger wants to make a phone call? Or when the driver has stopped to make or receive a call?

...and I didn't think you were having a go. You made a fair point. I've admitted in the past that I need to let things go more, and I am a lot better these days. The roundabout overtake was about 9 months ago.


I certainly ain't perfect, but I'm getting there!

Im with magnatom on this one..The motorist is wrong whether you like it or not.You may not care if one of us gets mown down by one of these clowns but it could be a kid or a family.

Using mobile phones while driving leads to poor positioning and road behaviour.

You can't keep protecting the moton on the basis he/she may pursue bad behaviour next time he/she encounters a cyclist.Yes I have a go as well but there are some real ****ing ignorant twats out there who put peoples lives in danger and think they are better drivers when they aren't.It's an offence isn't it?

I've admitted in the past that I need to let things go more, and I am a lot better these days.

and i think that by letting some of the minor things go and concentrating on the really bad driving you will strengthen your case.
unfortunately in this situation people will always be looking for that one "picky clip" (for want of a better description) to ram down your throat.

the majority of these clips are truly shocking and it seems a shame to dilute them with things that could have been "let go"

You do make sense, but I don't wan't to take any of my videos down. Each video has a point to make and tells a little bit of my story. Maybe when I come to write my book everyone will understand me a bit better...

I make gestures and point at car drivers on mobiles whether I'm on my bike, or a pedestrian. I think it right to point out bad behaviour especially if I am with children, to make the point that it isn't acceptable. They are the next generation, and need to know that talking on the phone whilst driving isn't acceptable.

I must admit I would like a technical solution to prevent the driver using a phone whilst moving but don't see how whilst still having the passenger able to make phone calls. I've phoned to say we are late/stuck in traffic/ask for directions whilst sitting in the passenger seat.

I think to start with the law needs to be changed to make it not just a policeman observing the phone call to make it an offence.

And then make the penalties much greater as they obviously don't worry a large number of people at present.
