I've seen similar things in the States, and they are nothing like as visible as proper reflective strips.

Let me tell you about a product ( maybe it was home made but it was very effective ) I saw in the States.

A pair of gloves with a reflective Arrow attached to the backs. When the cyclist gave a hand signal, the cars behind him saw which way he was intending to turn.

Developing this theme, I considered stitching some amber colored reflective tape around the fingers of my gloves. While I am giving a direction signal, I could clench and release my fingers to create a flashing effect.

Now lets hear how loud the laughter is ......

Has anyone seen "American Inventor" on Virgin 1 ?

:?:

You could get the flashing effect by rolling your hand between horizontal and vertical...

As for the OP's item, I think you'd look like a complete mook wearing one of those.

I am sure a while back bike radar featured a jacket with small leds attached to the sleeves. Lifting your arm up was enough to get them flashing as an aid to indication. Still not convinced though that these are better than 2 or 3 decent rear lights

Within the 'Enthusiasm' stage of this project, I found that rolling my hand between horizontal and vertical caused an aerodynamic effect which produced an instability of the arm, upperbody and torso resulting in a quite uncontrollable wobble which was un-nerving with only one hand holding the handlebars.
That idea was dismissed.
Future cyclists will thank me for putting my own life at risk for their safety.

I have also experimented with luminous paint on rear of hat, until I was aproached by a group of USAF troopers in big white suits.

No, not really, that was a joke.

£45 for a vest with glow wire attached is a bit steep. If you really must go for an led vest this one is £15 cheaper. Or you could just get this and make one yourself for way less than half the price. I did a similar thing to my rucksack a couple of years ago with some glowire I got from B&Q for £5.

There's also tons of other stuff out there that will do as good, if not better job of getting you seen for much less money.

PS: I don't work for the Glow Company, just spotted the site the other day and thought there was loads of pretty cheap stuff that would be handy for cyclists.

Nice link. Like the look of the spoke lit light. Anything that improves side visibility sounds good to me.
