Were you three those dawdling pretenders I saw this morning on my round trip between Solihull and Warwick.

Did you notice a red blur? That was my road jersey.

Was on the A21 about 7.45ish...

Actually... there were no scalps on the A21 today until I got to the Rushey Green/Lewisham bottlenecks where there were a couple of MTB'rs.

Ouch...cheap shot:biggrin:

What time were you "flying"...you may have passed me as I was still in recovery mode for a while (sorting out my weekend hypocondria...see Health and fitness section).

Or were you the really slow chap being overtaken by me on my MTB!

Best commute I've done was 21.4mph on the way in, but going home dropped that to 18mph over 43 miles round trip. Still had to do a full day's skating in between.

Taking into account the sodding foot tunnel, and no wind, I reckon I would be hard pressed to get to 20mph mark, especially with the 50th looming in July :-(

The old chicken legs aren't getting any younger.

I only log distances with my commutes and put in an average of about 16 mph in - rough guess. Never bother to time it, just reset trip every few days, or if I'm on a different route.

Now, training circuits, that's a different matter.

I would normally expect to average between 20-22mph between Biggin Hill and Lewisham. It's the downhills and flatness, which work very well for the recumbent's aerodynamics. The laughable part is coming back home when I'm knackered and it's uphill.

What's your average on the homeward journey? Do tell. :bicycle:

Direct, flat and fast! Cool. I took the train last night as I had a couple of sherbets, so today I had the joy car to Beckenham Hill, train to Lewisham, DLR (with delays) to Canary Wharf, took over 90minutes - three tiems slower than yesterday's bike commute!!!!

Errrr, no. It's waaaaaay too embarassing, and is considerably lower than the inbound average would suggest.

Awww go on :bicycle:

Me first.

Average to work today was 15.5mph on a 6 mile journey from Highgate to Southwark. http://sportstracker.nokia.com/nts/workoutdetail/index.do?id=2231492 This is one of my fastest. I overtook someone on a very nice road bike on Blackfriars bridge which spurred him to click up and pass me back half a mile later. I was doing 26 and he passed me easily, I so need a faster/lighter bike.

Homebound last night was 13.9mph on a 6.2 (one way system forces different route) http://sportstracker.nokia.com/nts/workoutdetail/index.do?id=2231495
Total ascent home bound is 676ft according to mapometer.com. Not the biggest ride or hill but still a good climb and workout.

All this is going to change next week when I move futher out of London so I've been putting an extra effort in to get PB's this last week.

I managed a 20.4 avg over my seven miles, there was a decent tailwind but still thats what the computer said, it tells me when I have been slow as well.

Generally doing 17 mph these days, losing a stone and getting a new bike has helped.
