Just had an E-mail like this one pop through my webmail, it got diverted automatically to spam.

Looks very plausible: the blacked-out bits were my correct E-mail address.

But I don't have a FB account .

I assume this is phishing spam. Others may be taken in. Be careful out there!

Look at the from address............ giveaway. I bet hovering over the links contained in the email also exposes some tell tail url's to tell you that its a phishing email. I get them all the time.

It does indeed. Hovering over any of the links, gives you http:// followed by a bare IP address, just the numbers, followed by some other gibberish. The same URL, whichever of the links in the message you hover over.

This is with IE. Do all other browsers also show you a link preview feature?

I'm worried because zillions of people are on facebook. Including Mrs P...

Im not sure, I look at my emails using MS Outlook.

My supervisor at uni publishes all his students and researchers work contact details on the research groups pages, since mine was published, I have had tonnes of phishing emails.

In that case, to be sure, don't click on the link to login but use your web browser directly instead.

What I mean is.. I logged on to faccebook today, and I immediately got an email from them welcoming me back (hadn't logged on for a month or two)..the email from them had a "from" address of

Facebook [update+of1vfvz1@facebookmail.com]

So all I am saying is that an odd "from" address is not always an indication of spam.

Its a good starter when trying to tell. Look at the from address, if for any reason you think it looks suspect (I would have immediatelly been suspicious with such an email address even though like you say, it follows what appears to be a legit format), hover over the links included in the email, usually you will find the links to be quite obviously fakes in phishing emails, its not that common you come across a good one if you poke about beyond the visual layout. If you cant tell for certain and are still uneasy about the email, like Manonabike says log in via the home page not via the email.

Hotmail gets tons of junk like that; thankfully they've got good at filtering stuff so half of it goes straight to my spam folder. From time to time I check the folder to see if decent stuff has been sent there by mistake. Yesterdays one was quite funny something to do with a walk in job (no interview needed) in the states. Its either my great 2nd uncle three times removed has left me a fortune in his will or a bank which I don't use has offered to refund money or closed my non existent accounts. Or my non existent ebay account.
