Most of my friends don't swear madly, either on or off Facebook. And I don't see the need to pepper every sentence with swear words myself, just saving it for those high stress moments, usually involving pain or vehicles!

The most annoying one is someone who posts in a Facebook page about a locality who keeps posting images of her daughter's "fantastic" cartoon drawings. Now I'm going to see if I can block her since you have put the idea in my head!

Edit: I've just remembered which of all the groups I follow has the most swearing and moaning.... The Bristol Cyclists page, but it's been better of late.

This is a cycling forum,or at least that's my understanding.
Can you see a pattern of ganging up and light bullying emerging here, from the posts after mine ?
Irony ?

Not on this social networking site. Just pointing out the errors in your reasoning.

I know people who do
I read the papers,as per bullying and suicides.
My mum had to come off it,as she could not believe what she was seeing.
I think you have the wrong end of the stick. I have lived in a range of places, picking up random friendships and acquaintances along the way. I use FB to keep in touch with people who I would simply lost touch with on a pre-FB lifestyle. We post memories, messages and arrange the odd re-union. My friendship group and my life is richer for it.

I think the issue is choosing who you 'friend' and what security arrangements you have made (how open are your messages and what you can see). I rarely come across distasteful stuff, but I do occasionally cull people posting rubbish or stuff that I dont want to see.

There's a whole gamut of filters that you can use to eradicate drivel and pushed promotions. They are worth investigating.

My Facebook account is profanity and dross free but I only have one friend and he doesn't use Facebook.

I read the papers,as per bullying and suicides.

I read the newspapers too and have observed that they fail to deal with the complexities of each instance and the multi-layered vulnerabilities of the victims. Social media sites might contribute to the harm to the victims but it's never the sole cause. Newspapers never accompany each scandalising/moralising article with a paragraph or two outlining how folk can take measures to minimise/eliminate social media bullying to avoid future instances. After all, deaths and victimhood sells newspapers - sensible advice doesn't.

So now we know what your New Year's resolution was.

You know how generous I am with pies. :okay:

I find it tends to be when a friends likes something that contains the words, unfortunately it pops up on my screen I will block as much as possible. Some young people have a very poor grasp of language so swear to cover up their ignorance by pretending that swearing is a way to project their passion for something. Perhaps if they had spent more time ar school..

Yet studies have dismissed this myth. Also showing that those who are fluent with taboo words, actually have greater fluency with English language, and often a greater vocabulary in general.

Here for rides.
Just seen a post in my FB business feed and the guy as banging on about how much he dislikes English people using the English language so badly. I presume he is happy with other nationalities using it badly.

The example he cites is weight instead wait or vice-versa. As bad as break vs brake on here.

I digress; the point is his post is littered with 'F's' & 'C's' and a *ollocks thrown in for good measure.

He's not alone in using this language and it seems common on FB.

Is it me or am I just an old fashioned fuddy-duddy by not really liking this sort of thing?

NB: I'll admit to swearing in real life but it is pretty mild and rare.
I rarely if ever see obscenities in my facebook feed
