Saw this doing the rounds on Faceache earlier on this week. Most of the comments were people annoyed the cyclist wasn't hit and killed.

Yes, I saw it on my page as well, the facebook anti cycling brigade were out in force, I rarely read the comments on a cycle post on facebook.

Our H&S officer just remarked, "I wouldn't like my name on their Risk Assessments". HSE will be over it like a rash.

It begs the question, was there a risk assessment?

I assume you reminded him that trees can't differentiate, so they can fall on pedestrians the same way as they can fall on cyclists. Therefore it's important that he always wears a helmet whilst out walking.

If as I suspect the work was being carried out by the travelling tree felling specialists, there will be no raams, no receipt & no sign of the workmen.
I also would not like to think I had employed them or had my name anywhere near that job.
It is a tree on the public highway.
It would be amazed if travelers were involved unless someone silly has subcontracted the work.

Either way someone is in trouble.

That tree should have been cut in sections and roped to the ground. There is no way on this earth that you’d fell that tree there.
There is a rope on it, and they were hoping to fell it parallel to the kerb which isn’t coned off etc.....
As pointed out, it must be a local authority job, they’ve employed some cowboys there!

Now the other day I saw a thread in these parts about a cyclist shooting someone with a gun (yes I know, as opposed to with a camera) and quite soon the comments went along the lines of why is this person described as a cyclist (because if it was a driver then the media what not call the person a driver and so on).

But now, this person, riding a bike, is called a cyclist. So is this one wrong, or the other thread is wrong? I actually think they are both right? Should I shut up?

Never underestimate the temptation of a cheap price, as others said, it should have been cut in sections, I know that & I don’t cut trees down for a living
