Interesting that BBC London Tonight has no mention of the two cyclists killed on the roads but has devoted ten minutes to telling cyclist off for hurting a couple of fucking dogs!!:smile:!:cycle::smile:!

We've no idea what was on the lorry, why it was in Bloomsbury, whether it was empty, the driver lost, delivering a printer part, whether the journey was necessary or could have been managed alternatively. The petrol price rises reduced congestion which suggests strongly to me that many urban journeys are unnescessarily short.

Ok, perhaps it was empty. Usually lorries are empty once they've been unloaded. It's also possible the driver was lost, which is all the more reason to keep well clear of lorries. Perhaps the journey could have been managed differently, but diesel isn't so cheap that transport companies can afford to throw it away by running artics where they don't have to.
Hello Spindrift, by the way.

Yes I thought that too. Their dogs are supposed to be on leads and under control in public places which they're often not. I wouldn't want to see a dog hurt but where is the priority in reporting such a story against the death of yet another cyclist by an HGV. Probably because the doggy celebrities publicised it and were there for the camera shoots. The media hyping how nasty and dangerous those cyclists are blah blah blah

Ok, fair enough. My artic will take the same amount (in weight terms) as ten 7.5 tonners, or forty - odd transit vans. Imagine replacing every artic on London roads with that many vans ... quite. ;)

Use the canal and a horse and cart...then we would all be in the shoot:biggrin:

If the HGV killed someone on a building site HSE would be all over them, if it's a cyclist on the road nobody cares.

Or you fall off a pleasure cruiser on the Thames, review and tighten procedures.......

Glad i didn't see the BBC London news about the poxy celebs and their dogs as I fear my track pump may have ended up through the telly.

The death of a cyclist didnt seem to stop some people cycling like idiots. Picked up this one guy, so to speak! at Farrington and followed all the way to Brixton hill and even i was astonished at the bad cycling. think i will have to post the whole journey up lol Camera failed on me this morning which is a dam shame as nearly got wacked by a bus then a merc'. And yes i was going slower today and taking my time.

This junction is on my daily commute, though I'm usually turning right towards Kingsway. As four lane junctions go it's not particularly difficult, centre pair of lanes are straight on, but divide further east, and outer pair dedicated to left/right turns. The junction 150m west with bus lane selective traffic lights is, IMHO, more dangerous and one of the few places I'm prepared to RLJ.

I came on the scene a little before the TV crew. The bike was still under the lorry. Seemed to be beneath the tractor unit rather than (as I'd expect when "hooked" on a left) the nearside of the trailer. As well as any witnesses nearby the junction is under multiple CCTV surveillance so hopefully the facts can be fully established.

Drove back from Park Lane to Twickenham last night – nearly took out a complete f’wit on a bike – one of those stealth cyclists – all in black, no reflectors, no lights – about 8pm (in a very dark Hyde Park) – I think he must have been on the pavement, but decided to hop onto the road right in front of me – just noticed him in time to take avoiding action.

Was with him most of the way through Kensington to Hammersmith – he went trough every red light, undertook vans and lorries etc – if he cycles like that every day, I doubt he’ll make it to Christmas.

Come to think of it, there were loads of unlit idiots out there last night – about 50% of the cyclists I saw – is it silly season or something…

One of BM's mates yeah so did I last night.

You must live in am alternative reality because it's ditto.
