There are some great routes near where I live. Unfortunately I have to cycle 5+ miles each way along either knackered, busy or just plain boring roads to get to them. Instead I'm spending my time exploring the cycle paths in and around Swindon on my fixed wheel bike.

Route 1 through Holkham Park is stunning

Good shout that!

Re The Walks- sandringham, one I ride frequently, I read they plan to turn the nice wide bit just north of Lynnsport into a road for all traffic! Seems v shortsighted.

Down here I have the Lodes Way on my doorstep which is brilliant. Largely car free and very quiet. The only downside is I get lazy as it's so pleasant, I ride it all the time instead of finding new routes- into Suffolk for example. There's some really lovely country east of Newmarket/ west of Bury. Some hills to play with too!

Your trike looks epic! It must be frustrating though, with places not being accessible by trikes

Not all is lost Here are more photos of the Sustran 2 route outside of Newhaven ( top 2 photos ) A real cycle track though the " wild life " area - a real cycle track 60 feet away from the main A259

Over the past year with these cycle path frustrations we have redesigned and built these full size but more compact trikes . taking the wheelbase down and narrowing the track we have now developed a pair of e-trikes that fit through most of the barriers that stopped the bigger Voyager e-trike .
Weighing under 75lb with lithium batteries and rack and empty panniers . The next modification will be to use pushchair hamster bags as these look nicer than panniers on the rear .

Shown here along the under cliff walk ( now open for cyclist to use ) between Saltdean and Brighton
( Brighton Marina is in the distance ) not exactly part of the Sustran 2 route but a little detour along the coast avoiding the hills between Saltdean and Brighton , Its a nice run as there is a cafe at ovingdean that does nice tea and cake at the bottom of the cliff .

These e-trikes ( code named the 20/20s ) just fit the narrower gaps so all is not lost and these small wheel e-trikes are lighter and with one inside the estate and one on the roof we can as they say ---- Have trikes will travel !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There is a build log thread in the Recumbent / HPV part of this forum

The Ebury Way between Watford and Rickmansworth. An old railway track converted to a tree lined cycle way, no traffic even to be heard, never mind seen, places you can stop to see the remains of the old railway including the turntable, turn offs to green spaces where you can stop and explore, bits that go over streams and beside fishing lakes, and a tunnel under the railway where you can stop and make noises while it's reverberant (small person on the back loves that bit). Plenty of width for trailers and trikes, and the surface is reasonable in all weathers but just gravelly and uneven enough to keep the speed to an enjoyable pootle instead of a race track. Nice cafe in the Aquadrome at the Ricky end and Watford Cycle Hub halfway along it. It's perfect for families and beginner cyclists.

That's a great cycle route - I used to take school trips to Alton Towers, but the kids only got to go to the theme park on day two if they did a day on the Tissington trail first!

Locally here in Devon, I love the Tarka trail - but it gets mad busy in the summer at weekends, too.

Depends on the weather, wind direction and my legs but like some of the others have said, it doesn't really matter so long as I'm on the bike. Having said that, there's one road I'll never venture near again. It runs through a farm (buildings on both sides, might as well be the farm yard) and the entire stretch is covered in a deep, fresh, never-ending river of cow dung that covered the entire width of the road. I didn't realise how bad it was until I'd started down in but had to keep going as it was too narrow to turn round without stopping and that would have meant sinking my foot into the ooze. I'm just glad I was on the tourer as it's got mudguards and the road bike doesn't... xx(

Comfy armchair to one person & a plank to the next

That was the plan two or so years ago but we seem to have persuaded them to put the road between the hedge and the industrial estate instead (culverting a bit of drain). The drawback is two new roads still crossing it. Watch KLWNBUG on Facebook or http://KLWNBUG.cyclescape.org for further updates.

Fixed wheel fanatic.
My faveroute (sic) is to head north on the A6 out of Kendal to Shap village then just before you enter the village turn right and head South through Orton and Tebay then back over the hill to drop down into Kendal and then back home. It's a big ride (about 80miles) but the views are great and it's not as hilly or busy as heading into the lakes.
