I spend a lot on bird foods and various bird things,i like seeing them in the garden..

Cheap fat mix..coconut halves filled with seed and anything they like and just add warmed up lard..leave to set..watch ,enjoy
they go mad for it..cheap feed..

I fill them so the fat hopefully stays in place..but this mild weather is just seed...and nuts etc.
i use the fat balls mostely..the home mades are for cold days..i wok a lot of ground up bread and stirfry in oil..they like that on a cold day too..

What species do you get @meta lon ?

Im lucky that my area is sort of rural and lots of established trees and hedgerows
regular visitors..
blue tits
great tits
cole tits..long tailed now and again
sparrows
blavk birds
crows
goldfinch
starlings
wren
robins
green finch
siskins
doves and pigeons galore..and squirrels...
sparrow hawk...
magpie
gulls in very cold weather..
a few more but i feed a good variety to attract them..
i had a Hawfinch a while ago ,a first..
green wood peckers..and lesser ,wagtails..now and again
bull finches fieldfare thrush and even waxwings have been around but this is a now and again thing..

mate whos a big birder had a Red Pole yesterday..we do get black caps now and then

I used to like doing that, but here in Norway there is a prolificacy of magpies and they keep the other, smaller song birds at bay. I use a catapult sometimes to try and scare them away, which temporarily works and gives me a small amount of pleasure.

Also there are a lot of cats (including ours) in the 'hood, so I don't want to hand them easy prey/sport.
