Not pets but my agent in Nigeria, an English bloke, thought it would be a good investment to grow catfish in big tanks. Everything was going swimmingly (sorry) until he travelled home for Christmas. When he got back to Naija a couple of weeks later, all the fish had disappeared. His staff maintained that there had been an outbreak of disease but they were all looking well fed and a bit sleepy so he suspected the fish had been sold and eaten. As they say: WAWA: West Africa Wins Always. After that he tried breeding grass cutters, which are giant rats much enjoyed for their meat but somehow they kept dying as well so he got out of that business.
