Ferrybridge power was always the landmark that told me I was nearly home

Me too. We used to stay with family in Leeds, and the power station and the double bend over the bridge was the landmark for the turn off the A1 through Garforth.

I think Drax still burns some coal, they are gradualy changing to burning Biomass.

Land mark me too as was Tinsley things move on and we can't keep digging stuff up, burning it and hoping with will be ok.
Just a shame no-one has the will or imagination to turn them into something useful and of benefit for the community.
