Looks similar to a WWI French 75. The bottom assembly houses the recoil mechanism. Prior to these types of gun, artillery bounced back with each shot meaning they had to be repositioned before firing again. This type could be fired repeatedly without having to do that,

The trouble with that is that the awfulthorities may think you are trying to conceal something .
