both Surrey and West Sussex (and many more besides, I'm sure) have contracts that say the roadmenders should fill holes that they have been told about, and are a certain depth, and leave anything else. I've seen this in action - and the result is that the slightly smaller hole gets bigger, and they have to come back to fill it. How is that sensible?

I've asked the question, and Anthony has provided the answer - the hole is marked as filled if either the person reporting the hole, or the local authority tells fillthathole.org that the hole is filled.

Of course, if the filling comes out, then it can be reported again...

Ok, last year I reported 8 - 10 holes via fillthathole, I got an email about one of them, from ctc/fillthathole asking if it had been filled in months and months after the work was done. So if I'm useless at updating and the LA are too....

Absolutely hopeless round here, bodge jobs done one day and hole returns within a week. Some of the roads were pretty bad to start with, now the winter weather has made some extremely dangerous for cyclists and motorbikes particularly when its dark.

I reported some on Friday, and by Saturday lunch time they were filled in:ohmy:
I'm going with co-incidence. My reported one has been fixed, but is still down as not filled on Fill That Hole. I think I reported it to the council direct as well, but no reply from them either. Ah well, at least it's fixed!
Now, how to report the entire stretch of bus lane from the end of the MRI into town on Oxford Road?

;) sometimes it's easier to tell them which part of the road doesn't need filling

I saw a big hole somewhere on route today and it looked as if it was being done well (speaking with no knowledge of how to mend pot holes), it had been excavated down to about 4 inches and seemed to be being well compacted at the under layer rather than just tipping some tarmac on top.

True! I was quite impressed to note that the pothole fillers have been busy - yesterday I noticed my inward commute had quite a few holes patched; and then my homeward route had some fixed too!

Of course, this morning to compensate, the holes on Oxford Road seem even bigger than normal, one I swear is double the size it was yesterday...
