Not happy viewing?! If there's a more inspirational cycling film out there, I'm yet to see it.
Maybe I'll change my mind when I watch the rest but it's had some pretty grim tales amidst some pretty great scenery so far. Saddle sores so bad that blood's running down the legs? That's one tough guy to keep going but  that's not why I ride - how about you? What is it that you find inspirational?

Juliana's crash, the woman from NZ being killed in a hit and run (though it didn't actually say if that was cycling related) and the guy getting clipped by a horse trailer are the only things that stood out as negative for me.

It is an overwhelmingly positive celebration of all that is good about cycling.

Well, it seemed a remarkable answer to the questions I asked, hence the remark!

OK then, to answer your questions more directly...

No, I don't ride until I bleed, but I find the strength and determination to do so inspirational, as I do with pretty much all endurance athletics.

To have the mental (and physical) fortitude to take on a challenge like that is also incredible.

I'd show it to a non-cyclist or family member any day of the week. Why wouldn't you?

Not really very respectful to Mike to start arguing about the film IMHO.
Seriously? Mike's one of the stars and really admirable, it's a high point most of the time he's on screen and I've nothing bad to say about him. There's another thread about him, though.

That doesn't itself make the film perfect or even inspiring for non racers/race fans.

Sorry if my post was ambiguous .You misunderstood me completely . I was trying to say show some respect for Mike Hall by not bickering about the film on this thread.

Mike was one of the greatest long distance cyclists ever . also widely respected as a person.

Right. I think I understand but I don't share that sentiment, maybe because I've never been athletic so there's never been the faintest question of me doing something like that. It's something alien to me, a curiosity, a spectacle.

I think that completes the circle to https://www.cyclechat.net/posts/4751229

I agree he was a great but rather than shutting down discussion of a film because he appears in it, if you want to show some respect, I think it would be better to add a bit to https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/Mikehall - or even just add a proper tribute to https://www.cyclechat.net/threads/m...ng-the-indian-pacific-wheel-race-2017.216294/

If you'd like another recording of Mike, he appeared on http://thebikeshow.net/transcontinental-race-wrap-up/ last October.

Not sure if it's been said but for those that missed it, it seems to be on a high repeat rate

Dirk just want to say a big thank you for posting the link as I couldn't seem to be able to find it on YouTube without having to join something.
I am doubly gutted in that Mike lost his life in such a way and also prior to his loss I had never heard of him. He clearly was a good athlete and a great guy to know or even meet.
I would like to think that Mike is up there now talking bikes with our old forum mate Vernon and sharing a pie.
