Have you ever seen a film that was a remake / reboot / rip off that you though was better than the original?

I’ve been racking my brains, but can’t come up with any. What do you think?

City on Fire/Reservoir Dogs.

City on Fire was good, but (at the time) Reservoir Dogs was a revelation.

(note: Tarantino denied it was a remake, but he was lying)

The Thing (from outspace?)/The Thing (Carpenter)

Both good films, but the 50s one defintely shows it's age. Well, the probably the Carpenter one does too by now.

---------

The Bodyguard/Bodyguard from Beijing. Definitely enjoyed the Jet Lee version more.
------
La Jettee/12 Monkeys

(though La Jettee is lovely, and very short)

Perhaps not absolutley better but "fistfull of dollars" and "last man standing" are both pretty good remakes of Youjimbo.

I'd seen the Ringo Lam before the Taratino (and he was into HK action films, so he had too) - so I don't need proof. It's the same plot, and has the same Mexican standoff.

If I am not mistaken the Magnificent 7 was also a remake of a Japanese film.............so much better as I don't speak Japanese
