Not to outdo Risex's excellent thread about surprisingly good films, what about the hype, the build up, the knot in your stomach where you couldn't wait until release day? ....... only to be rewarded by a PILE OF PANTS, aka, "Episode -5: The Phantom Menace".......

The Hobbit.

Sahara.

LCpl Boiled Egg

Three word soundbite
Man of Steel. Early parts were good, childhood realisation of X-ray vision was handled well, even Kevin Costner was good. The ending was dire though.

I always thought that the sequel to Revenge Of The Sith (think it was called Star Wars or something) was pretty crappy. They seemd to have lost all their budget for special effects and it looked really dated. Don't know why they bothered making it really.
You could write a thesis on how George Lucas stuffed up after the first three, if I may postulate: the end of the war/cold war ideology of good v's evil was strong into the mid/late 80's, then began to fade. A few franchises were caught up in this (James Bond, Pierce Brosnan era??), it was all an issue of relevance.
