All billed by friends as 'hilarious' or 'amazing'. All pish. I have other examples but those are the most recent.

That pirate film with Geena Davis, the one that bankrupted the film company, which had previously made lots of money from the Robocop, Total Recall and Terminator films.
Although I cannot recall any good pirate based films.

Cutthroat Island is the Geena Davis movie.

Mutiny on the Bounty was pretty good, and the first Pirates of the Caribbean was fun.

I got taken to that on a first date (last date too). I do remember joking with the chap I was with "It sinks you know" and he laughed. The two teenaged girls behind me got really huffy and said that we shouldn't spoil endings for people :banghead:

It's like that when you say 'he gets shot at the end' in the Gandhi film.

Every Kevin Costner film ever.

Back in the 80s I and my then girlfriend used to take pot luck, go to one of London's more niche cinemas (Everyman , Scala and similar) and see whatever was on.

One day we saw Rocinante, by Eduardo Guedes. This piece of tripe had both Ian Dury and John Hurt in it, so it had to be excellent! It was poo.

A similar failure on these random trawls was Mishima: A Life in four Chapters. Even if you knew a little of the man and had read him in translation, it was a long, complex drudge. Poo heaped upon poo with wee-wee on top.

A third absolute failure was A Zed and Two Noughts. Anyone who likes Peter Greenaway films is still asleep or is trying to impress someone. I vaguely recall that the car crash involved a driver named Bewick, a Bewick's Swan and a Buick. That's about all you need to know, or more.

Nonetheless, the random approach to film viewing was hugely successful for the most part and I recommend it.

Despite the three above wastes of good coffee and carrot cake.

I thought about Mutiny on the Bounty but realised it is not a pirate film.
