While in traffic a cyclist filtered down my inside, was then held up by lights. When the lights changed I caught up as the traffic got moving, and filtered passed him at the same speed and space he did with me, why would he be annoyed?

What mode of transport where you on?

In either case the speeds have changed as you where at 0mph and then he is traveling at x mph when you overtake him at y mph at z distance.

I often get youtube comments stating that I shouldn't pass the cars so close, as I complain about them overtaking me at a similar distance but the way a car and a bicycle works are completely different. Firstly a cyclist is open to the elements, unlike a car driver which is surrounded by metal, has an airbag and a seat belt. A cyclist balances the bicycle whilst a car holds it's position on the road without need for constant adjustments. A bicycle wobbles and moves around to avoid things like pot holes, where as cars can just driver over most of them without a worry. Lets not forget about wind turbulence, a large or fast moving vehicle creats large amounts of air turbulence behind it and if the vehicle passes too close then this can cause deviations in the cyclists path and is very unnerving. So a bicycle overt

aking a stationary car at 10mph with 1m clearance is very different to a car overtaking a cyclist doing 20mph at 30mph with 1m clearence.

Sadly as you were in a car, on here your scum , the devil , you might as well have gone to his house and killed his dog and pi**ed on the kids, as car drivers are never right and cyclists are angels.
I would much rather have a car come past me close with confidence than one dithering behind waiting a mile to pass.

I have no idea why they would be annoyed. Maybe they should not be out on the road on their bike if they expect no other traffic? Sounds as if they might possibly be a regular on Commuting and believe all the guff spouted by people with helmetcams, and see "issues" where there are none.

Or maybe they are just social inadequates - although my view is that most people with helmetcams fall into this bracket anyway.

Because you were stationary when he passed you which meant he needed less room than you need to leave when you're both moving.

That is not what i'm saying.
The bottom line of it is a bicycle needs more space than the width of it's handle bars for safety sake, as a cyclist needs to move around objects which other vehicles just look over and they are effected by strong winds.
A car traveling down a straight road won't need to adjust its position for most things that a cyclist will.

Just wondered, he was obviously annoyed with everything that passed him, after he had passed them before. Might have been another reason Iv overlooked? Some sort of unwritten rule or something?
