I've been after a Dawes galaxy for some time.
There have been several around but always in the wrong place or above budget or just too new.
Anyhow picked this up fairly local for the right price with the right spec I wanted.
It wants a few very small jobs doing but not much at all
It rides beautifully.

I'll pop some more pics up when better weather is here.

Could anyone give me an appoximate year of manufacture please?
What is the stud? if that's what it is on the back of the headtube?
Any idea what paint colour would match for the odd touch up around the bottom bracket?

It's a 94 Dawes Galaxy. The year after my 93 Super Galaxy and the first year that they went internal routing for the Brake cable.

The stud is to locate one end of the frame fit pump, the other end was sculpted to sit in the junction of the top/seat tube.

Looks to be in lovely condition, have fun riding it.

Edit: There's a link to the catalogue here:

Thank you.
Brilliant info.
I need to look for that type of pump then. And possibly a used brooks saddle.

The only trouble is it can take 10 years to break a brooks in

Or perhaps longer i have had brooks professional on my touring bike for more than 15 years and its still as hard as a brick, have to say only used a few times a year but treated twice a year, there was one year that i did put it onto another bike and used it all summer but still looks and feels like new, sometimes i wonder if it will ever soften?

Does that come from '50 Shades of Brooks' by any chance?

The last bottle of leather dressing I bought was from Decathlon https://www.decathlon.co.uk/leather-care-oil-500ml-id_8220346.html

When I originally bought my Shorter Rochford bike off @biggs682 the old Brooks B17 was as hard as hell and had quite a few surface cracks to the leather, so I first of all gave it a good cleaning with saddle soap https://www.decathlon.co.uk/glycerine-soap-bar-250-g-id_8101408.html working it well into the leather and then when it was fully dried and at quite regular intervals I have worked in the leather dressing using only very small amounts.

This is exactly the same method I have used over many, many years on old and dry horse tack and so far it has never, ever failed to bring flexibility and lustrous life back into the leather. The objective with my Brooks saddle was not to make it all soft but to give it enough life so that my sit bones won the battle!

ps. I only give Decathlon as an example, you can buy these products from any good country store.

First commute impressions.
  • Rides absolutely beautifully
  • Comfortable and smooth(once I had raised the bars for the journey home).
  • I set off at 0600 this morning and despite the heavy frost arrived at work wearing a huge smile.
  • Silky smooth gears and noisless drivetrain.
There is not much more to add really.Apart from maybe a rack and a brooks saddle.
Well chuffed with it.
