Well, commuting in cornwall is great, no traffic lights, no pedestrians and a few nice hills and on the whole drivers are quite considerate!

Was riding down a hill in a nsl doing about 40 when I look right yo see a driver start overtaking me, pulls alongside with an open window shouts some incomprehensible gibberish then sees another car heading towards him so speeds up cuts in close and does a closed fist wave at me! The,great thing is that he then was stuck in a line of cars at the 2nd roundabout on the commute where im turning right and filter past him!

What an absolute p*nis!

Not as useful as a p*nis though no doubt!

Always makes me laugh when you catch up with them and filter past.

I'm pretty casual about getting a close pass, but it can vex me when I'm doing 35mph or more. At or over 40mph it is bizarre behaviour from a motorist and can be terrifying for the rider (well, me frankly).

I always have a glance at my speedo when I first think "Oooh, this is getting fast". It's always around the 38-39 mark. Even on a long NSL straight, cars rarely pass when I'm going over 40, so you were unlucky. it won't happen much.

Some motorists are unable (or unwilling) to work out that a mile or so at 40 on an NSL road will slow their journey by the cube root of f*ck all. This might spur them on to push for the pass.

I'm not sure there's much you can do to prevent it. If there is, let me know!

Once I get over 30 mph I tend to stray past primary towards the right hand side of the lane to dissuade anyone from being stupid enough to overtake. You occasionally get a k**b that takes umbrage but I just point out that I don't want an overtake followed by brake lights (usually exactly what they've just done).

i was sat almost in the offside wheel mark (hasnt been relaid for a while!) so it was a bit bizarre. i had similar yesterday when they though twice about overtaking and sat behind me for a short while.

it was this stretch of road about halfway down (it then goes further downhill then bends right then left, slightly uphill then down to a roundabout)

Blimey that's a stupid move by the driver.

I have a hill that's fortunately 40 mph limit. When I go down it, I'm doing a good 40-45mph (GPS confirmed), in primary - cars speedo's would be reading anything form 43 to 48 mph, so I think they stay back a little - 'look at that nutter' !!!!

Can't do that on fixed !!! :excl:

I have experienced this type of behaviour on a few occasions. With me it's always been young male drivers, who for some unknown reason feel the need to shout abuse, or allow their passengers to do it. In some cases it's a close pass, in others it's actually a perfectly good overtake. I have even been abused by an idiot travelling in the opposite direction.
I don't class these as incidents, most times I just smile and wave. On occasion I have caught them up at the next set of lights or junction etc, it's funny how quiet they become when you knock on their drivers window!

I had some plum overtake me on a bend this morning, only to immediately join a queue, at which point I filtered past. Tee-hee. It isn't just motorists though. I slowed on a shared path this morning as there were peds walking both ways, only for another cyclist to speed past and squeeze through them. I soon caught and dropped him though. Tee-hee again.

Had it a couple of weeks ago. Long downhill through Kimberworth with a notorious speed camera 3/4 of the way down. 30mph limit. I'm doing 30-35. I know WVM is behind me and he finally goes for the pass. To do so he has to pass on chevrons for a RH turn, (at which point he realised bikes can have more than bells) pull in and swiftly apply the anchors so as not to get done by the cameras. 50 yards past the cameras there's a car stood alongside the central white lines, driver indicating to turn right.
Everyone grinds to a halt.
Except me
Sailed through to the next long stretch to the next roundabout. The road had narrowed with parked cars. I made sure I rode well out of the door zone past them all.
Strange how you get to file away all this poor drivers behaviour.
Yesterday, M1. Traffics at a standstill. Southbound, just at the end of Tinsley viaduct. Some prat shoots up the hard shoulder between the main flow and the joining sliproad. Must have been doing 80+
Sunday, I was out for a run with the dog. Most of its cross country, but there's a bit on the road. Its a national speed limit road, straight with good visibility. Verges haven't been cut for a while, so I have to run roadside. RH side towards oncoming traffic. Why's it so difficult for 50% of the drivers to move their hands 1-2" when there's no oncoming traffic? Or even (dog forbid) slow down?

i got abused the other day and maybe i was in the wrong, there was a bad cycle path and i tend to ride the road it is a wide road which has traffic calming 60 limit ,i was head down unto 25 mph on the flat and some prick started gobbing off,any how lady justice smiled, road works 1 mile ahead i pulled up the side of him and said if i wanted his opinion ,i would ask him next time ,he looked shoot scared and was cowling in his car like a cornered animal,he never got past me within the next 3 miles due to the road works, its just the fact people think they can give it the large one and not face you as they are going to be gone:angry:
