Enjoy - my club's got it's annual 120-mile ride tomorrow so we'll have a load of additional riders.

I'm guessing I'll be rotating from being on the front to bringing stragglers back into the bunch ... or at least that was last year's ride.

Don't ride into the back of anyone ;)

When I was a regular club rider I did this twice, both times the rider in front of me hit the brakes hard without calling it, its no fun going down in the middle of the pack.:angry::blush:

I'd be mostly worried about my bike!!

The first one wrecked the front wheel and I had to have a lift home, the second one the bike ws OK and still ridable afterwards, I just gained some lumps and bumps.

As other have said just go along have fun listen and learn as they should give you plenty of encouragement and advice, my club has a "slow" and "medium" group that have a no drop policy where we try to ride at the pace of the slowest person to turn up and make sure we regroup at the top of hills etc and if someone has a mechanical the group will stop and someone will help.
The fast group is similar but after the cake stop they tend to put the hammer down and its your job to hang on but if your in the fast group then you know what to expect ( mind you Adrian Timmis ex pro sometimes rides on this ) .
I reckon you can easily add 1-2 mph to your average with the drafting effect but only ride as close as you feel comfy , ride slightly to one side so if you do have to stop then your not going to hit the back wheel/ rear mech of they rider in front unless your really confident and have faith in the rider in front.
Listen out for calls /points for holes and hazards .

Have fun , eat cake !

Well I managed to get out with them in the end. Those guys said a real serious pace! It was a similar route to the kind I would normally ride but I really have to push myself in order to even trying keep up - which I guess can only make me a better cyclist in the end!

Only a 50 miler but I'm mashed!

They had to wait for me at the top of quite a few hills, and by the end of it even a few slight gradients. I was really worried that they were going to get really miffed but they seem genuine and they said it wasn't an issue and have told me to make sure that I keep writing with them.

The whole thing has made me realise that when I'm out on my own I really do take a more leisurely pace! Hopefully keep riding with them to keep the miles app or the winter. Cheers for the support everybody

If you keep going you'll be surprised how quickly you find yourself improving. When going out with a club in Gloucester on some hillier rides than I was used to, the first couple of weeks I was struggling, but it didn't take me long to settle right into it...
