Matthew should have got the bit for the new keeper, though, with the bike!

Maybe the seller forgot to tear it off before sending it away to the DVLA and you don't need it anyway.

Matthew, try to cancel the deal via Ebay asap.
The difficulty with that is that the payment was arranged outside of Ebay (bank transfer). I prefer that way because my paypal has never worked and at least I have a copy of the transaction going through.
Also, if I do manage to get my money back, I will be at least £65 out of pocket (delivery charge) so will the seller pay me that back> Or is it something I will just have to put up with (it isnt a massive amount in comparison to what the bike cost)?

The chassis number is on the headstock. It came back as matching the plate number.
In that case the best thing would be to contact the DVLA as already suggested and get their advice. It might be that if the seller has sent it off, the paperwork is sat pending somewhere because it hasn't got your signature/details on it.

Whatever happens, you can't legitimately sell it on until you have the paperwork to prove you're the keeper.

In that case, why has the seller not told me that they have sent it? Why have I not had any response for ages? I have sent them emails but just not received any acknowledgement.

Oh well contacting ebay is out as I guess the transaction was completed outside this. If this was the case, then its small claims. I would still call the DVLA and explain the situation. Sticking your head in the sand won't work.

Did you buy it through ebay or was the auction ended as you agreed a price.

What a great start to tonight's episode, didn't see the none Ebay payment coming!

You're not expecting me to have read the thread are you Spinney and know what's going on, blimey.

Yeah, I'm not sure how the whole process works as a distance selling procedure. I like to get up close and personal with my buyers/sellers.

Well, the obvious answer is that they have something to hide, but if the numbers actually stamped onto the bike match the registration number when you did the search, I can only speculate as to what it is that they are hiding.

What incentive do they have to contact you?

They have your money and you have the motorcycle. This is an ideal conclusion for them. As far as they are concerned, this deal has gone remarkably well.

That 'boing' sound you heard when the V5 failed to arrive was the ball landing in your court. I wish you well.

It may be that this is all a big misunderstanding, but it does smell slightly fishlike. I hope it is the former, but I fear it is the latter.

None of which excuses your blatant hypocrisy regarding your and other people's obligation to remain within the law, but it is never nice to see someone get skinned.

At the time how was I to know it was illegal? I was on private land and (rightly or wrongly) believed that the bike didnt have to be road legal to be used on that type of land.

People have now pointed out my errors (although I am unsure about them due to the amount of responses that you tend to get on public media). I cannot see that I have done any harm and I have not cost anyone any money. I now know I did wrong and have stated that I will not be doing it again (unless in the future I get another bike and decide to keep it).

Do you mean you found it on eBay but then arranged payment out if it so it's not an official eBay transaction ?

Recently got a new V5 for car in just under 3 weeks I think the form said it may take up to 4.

As for the riding of the bike, had the police stopped Matthew without tax and insurance they would probably have also confiscated the bike.
