First Signs of Spring

This daff by our front door bloomed on Boxing Day

I was down in south Essex near Coalhouse Fort, Tilbury for work and spotted some sloe (blackthorn) already in blossom. This was early December. Bonkers.

Also in Essex, there’s been a swallow at Abberton Reservoir near Colchester for around a week now.

First snowdrops opened at the weekend...

Much the same story up here as well but any flowers that were brave enough to show their face this early will soon be regretting their decision next month when the snow and frost arrives.

I haven't seen any yet but there must be some new lambs around even if they are still inside.

Local goldfinches started singing in mid December. It's my first winter here so I was surprised to discover that the chap outside my living room starts around 4am.

My snowdrops and daffs have not put in an appearance yet.

Been wearing my thin long finger gloves since the new year.

Snowdrops are only beginning to push up here, but my winter aconites are in full bloom. I wouldn't have expected them to be out for at least another two to three weeks...
