It's a good number of years since I rode one. I did ride a fixed-wheel trike for a year. It was a Ken Rogers conversion, so not exactly top notch.

Never ridden a trike but once had a go on an old butchers delivery bike.

It had a big basket on the front that didnt turn with the handlebars. This made you oversteer until you fell off until you got the hang of it.Really weird sensation.

I was under the impression that a trike was ideal for people with balance problems and now I find out it is harder to balance than a 'normal' bike. My world is shattered.

Anybody who hasn't ridden a bike much finds a trike easy as there are no balance problems.
It's those who've ridden a lot who have problems because you need to relearn how to turn corners.
On a bike you learn to lean into a corner then steer a bike through the turn to keep your balance.
But on a trike you have to steer through the corner then lean into the turn to keep your balance.
It's a subtle difference but does make a difference on how well you can corner and non-riders do it naturally and rider don't.
Once you've learnt the trick then trikes are "easy" ...... ^_^

I can safely say never, ever brake whilst cornering on a trike :stop: I overcooked a right hand bend on a decent on a Audax at the end of April on my Longstaff conversion, tried to scrub off a bit of speed whilst turning in and the inside wheel promptly lifted tried to sort myself out and clipped the kerb with the outside wheel and was thrown into a lamp post breaking a shoulder . Not put me off though , hopefully picking up a longstaff trike this weekend
