Its always made me retch, the smell of it is enough to make me feel sick.
No fish for humans comes over the threshold of this house.
You should search for the 'Surstromming challenge' on Youtube. Smelliest food on the planet, lots of retching reactions and , well, puking..hilarious:blush:.

OK, how about a halibut steak next?
Halibut just doesn't sound nice

A friend of mine recently caught this: a new world record, shore caught, halibut of 153lb. A fillet of that would be nice but I doubt he will be able to bring any home from Norway. On a much smaller scale, the local Kent sand dabs are very nice fried in butter.

I've got a place fillet in the fridge for lunch. Trying to decide whether to pan fry or oven. I'll use fresh ginger today, although sometimes I use a simple cheese sauce.

Rather fancy trying to fillet a fish.

I went on one of those day fishing trips out of a Cornish port a few years back. Caught plenty of Pollack at about 6-7 lbs. I took a couple back to the holiday cottage and then proceeded to try to fillet them, never having done this before

My god....what a mess. It was like something out of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre when I'd finished. I was also incredibly inefficient and my fillets were rubbish for the size of fish I started with

They were delish though...just fried with a bit of butter, garlic and some spring onions

Thats the main reason i have stayed away from fish . I always ended up with a pile of unusable blood and guts with a severed head thrown in and a tea spoon full of fish to cook
I didn't know you could ask the fish monger to clean it

Not a huge fan of fish in general. Prefer more shellfish but Cod, haddock, mackerel and sea bass will do for me. Occasionally i also eat pilchards and sardines but only the ones that come in a can swimming in tomato sauce

I dont mind Steamed or fried but i love it when you wrap them in tin foil with a little salt, pepper, butter and squeeze of lemon before baking it slowly for around an hour or slightly over for some nice moist fishy goodness... Let the fish cook in its own juices and all that! Fantastic!!
