... Or winter riding rather. Snappy title tho.

I've had my fixed for 3 years. A Fuji Classic track in Asbo orange. Out on adventures till mid summer when I got a full carbon road bike, a first for me.

But... The cold frosty mornings have arrived and since carbon doesn't crash well it's nuh night carbon, hello steel fixed gear for the winter.

Little bit harder work than the carbon but sooooo much fun. 69" gear spinning along at 20mph, back off for junction, easy as it may be icy, straighten up then power down. Big grin.

All you need really. Apologies to the fixed gear for neglecting it for a bit. Looking forward to a winter on it with the low maintenance. I promise to take it out more often even when the good weather returns.

Ice will dump you on your bum, fixed or now. I commute on fixed, but will get the spiked tyre bike out for any ice or snow - it's also a good work out.

road fixed for about 5yrs until I got a 2nd hand road bike last Christmas, to be honest I prefer the fixed. Majority of the miles in my sig and some of the KOMs have been done on my fixed.

Fixed for commuting and winter riding, the geared bike goes in the shed in autumn and comes out in the spring. I've had my Pearson over six years now, done around 18-20000 miles on it, currently running a 66 inch gear, it put a smile on my face the first time I rode it and it still puts a smile on my face now. Buying the Pearson marked my return to fixed, I was running a home brewed fixed in the late 1980's-early 1990's

ISTR reading somewhere that fixed was somehow better for riding on dodgy surfaces (eg icy roads). How does that work then? It seems to me that not being able to freewheel gives me less control rather than more. Anyone?
