Fixing shoe soles

I have a pair of newish Aldi MTB cycling shoes - I use them without cleats for general round town cycling/walking.

Generally very pleased with them - on and off the bike.

But a design weakness meant that the insert that screws in the bottom (you unscrew it to attach the cleats) detached itself - basically because it isn't designed to screw firmly and flush down.

Took me a while to notice and although a very nice person from another forum sent me a spare bit to screw back in I am left with a long hole in the sole to one side of the insert. Sole got damaged I guess while I was walking on an insert-less sole.

Anyone got any idea what I can do/use to fix it?

I have heard of "shoe gunk" but have read very variable reviews of it.

I need something that:

Will bond with non absorbent shoe sole material

Will fill holes as much as glue.

Is flexible when dry, otherwise it won't flex with the sole but will presmably just crack off.

Shoe goo works for a while but it's not a long-term fix. I gave up and bought stiff sports shoes without cleat holes and am now using my damaged cleat-ready ones to destruction. Blasted things always let in water around the holes anyway.
