What colour is the light? Looks a bit blue from the pic. I've got an led wear backpack cover which has red leds on it, however is really shoddy quality.

Ah.
Well, i'd imagine drivers will give you plenty of room if it's set to flash, but a particularly fastidious policeman might confiscate it off you as it would technically be illegal to use on the road!

Someone at work is a good friend of one of the owners of Proviz.

I don't think their products are anything special. The lighting isn't great and the Hiviz isn't comparable to the hump covers. That's my opinion of course.

Technically it's perfectly legal to use as the law only states that the lights on your vehicle must be a certain colour.

Edit. Just seen the mention of the colour blue. That is reserved for emergency vehicles so there is a chance you would get a speaking to. From the examples I had seen in the past I recall it being more White but I may be mistaken.

No way that you could think that it is a police light (or emergency service) it is blue but more of a blue hue than than a blue light - certainly not as blue as the glint you get in some headlights.

I think it is better than Hump bags in terms of hi viz ness but hump has more reflectiveness

Fair enough, wasn't sure from the pic if it was a bluey-white rather than bold blue. Sure you won't get collared in that case!

Shame they don't do a red-light option, and have some reflectives on it, though. I'd be quite interested in one if they did.

Wait for the cyclist to pass.

HiViz is a mixture of fluorescent colours for use in the day, and reflective strips for use during the night. The Hump covers are certainly better than this backpack from a hiviz point of view.

Before i start ripping into this topic, as i feel the proviz company is just filling a non existent gap in the market for cyclists, why did you choose to get a hiviz backpack with lights rather than a good set of lights?

Got a good set of lights already, don't like my hump bag cover find it fiddly and annoying, needed a new bag saw this like it and am happy.

Would never us it as a replacement for lights.

Seems it's not for all!

That looks pretty blue from that vid!
Sorry if it seems like I'm having a go at you Lizban! That isn't my intention. I'd just have thought that considering how slow that light change is it would be better off with reflective strips than lights. And I'd be worried I'd get collared by the filth ;) Be interested in hearing Vike's take on the lights if he reads this?

I saw someone wearing something very similiar (certainly in the colour of lights) a few months ago and felt compelled to chase them down and tell them how effective it was at getting them noticed on the road at night.
It really stood out on the road at night amongst the car lights - not because it was glaring or bold, but because it was a little different.

I like!

ps. his had big scotchlite strips too.

Jez, don't guess the real colour from a YouTube clip.

As you can see from Lizban's comment about car headlights, true colours are tough enough to.see with the naked eye under artificial lights (zenons are white, they only appear blue because most halogens are yellow).

The actual colours of the back pack led's are little more than blueish white and, having followed one down an unlit lane this evening, I reckon the vertical stripes stand out superbly. Better than if they were red, imo.
