flashing light

I was wondering if it was allowed to cycle with flashing front and rear lights or do u have to have a constant light?
The reason I ask is that I have seen a few cyclists just with flashing lights only

I use one flashing one constant muahaa. Personally think you need a flasher so that your small light does not get lost in cars headlights etc.

Do not imagine for one second that you can prevent that by any action you can take. If someone is not looking right,it doesn't matter what lights you have.

Quite agree, been on the wrong end of it too many times but a choice between a steady light in a sea of steady lights or a flashing one, I'll go for the flashy option.

I favour one of each, flasher to attract attention, steady to be easier to track.

same here and they tend to be bright ones too. On the occasions I wear a helmet I have lights on that too for a better high level visibility over the roofline of the nearby cars.

Personally I run steady only on the front, my belief is that a flashing light will immediately be associated with a cyclist and I'd rather other road users saw* me as something on the road rather than something which they may believe is travelling at less than 10mph or that they have to get in front of.
You need to do whatever you feel most comfortable with.

Of course my preference would be that they saw me because they looked properly (and then treated me as a fellow road user) not because of something which I feel obliged to do.

Actually, my non cycling car driving friends are forever telling me about the bikes they see without lights. Flashing or fixed makes little difference to drivers, it's the non lit up bikes that seem to attract attention.
