having purchased a second hand giant defy last year my old btwin flat bar road bike hasnt had much use.
I supposedly upgraded tyres on my giant defy late this summer like they tyres just not in the wet as to me they seem dangerous, so this week have gone back to old flat bar road bike.

I have to say I like the layed back cycling on it. Its slower than my road bike but i feel I could do some distance on it quite comfortably furthest I have gone on it was thirty miles, when I had just got back into cycling just wondered if anyone uses their hybrid bikes for long disnatnces and what sort of experiences you have had with them for me they seem a good bike to cycle a long way. Just wonderd if this was the case.

Plenty of people used to do Ride London on flat bars. Others do long multiple day tours on flats too 👍🏻

Thorn used to say that flat bar was their preferred recommendation for their tourers but if you really insisted you have a drop bar version.

Yep I've got my Ridgeback Hybrid, (Tange CrMo frame) that I use as my 'mid weight' tourer, good for 80-100 miles a day. Also got my Raleigh Equipe as a 'light tourer' good for quiick jaunts and my Raleigh 'Outlander' MTB as a heavy tourer and for trailer dragging duties

Yes, although they recommended me some inboard bar ends to provide an alternative position. It's a tight fit with my handlebar bag but overall, I like it.

Pretty much a dedicated flatty user here…..👋

Could I go faster if this huge wind-break of a man wasn’t sat bolt upright in the wind ? Absolutely I suspect so ……

Would I fit-in better with the modern trend (?) of Gravel / Endurance type bikes if most of my riding involved drops / flares ? Possibly……

But when most of riding is done Solo: none of the above matters. So it’s about enjoyment and being as comfortable as I can be. For me that’s on a fat-tyred, comfortable and wide flat-bar’d machine
