Flies...

Managed to be wide mouthed going through a small group of flies. Closed my throat instantly but one bugger managed to get through. Felt huge as it disappeared down the throat. Am certain I will see him buzz out like Andy Dufresne "clean on the other side"!

I had a massive dragonfly hit me in the face going downhill at about 20mph the other day. Ouch. Glad i didnt have my mouth open for that one.

I bet the dragonfly was thinking the same

This is another reason for fairings on trikes.....

There is a particular "ping" when a large insect hits the fairing and rebounds off it and over your head

I've breathed in horrible midges in the past. I don't understand why some cyclists who intend to travel at a fair speed don't have eye protection. So many things hit the face and the glasses over the course of a year,that without specs the eyes must take in some serious crap!
