As Neil Kinnock once said in a TV interview, "Blast and buggery, burn fires of hell!"

I have sinusitis ... again! For the umpteenth time this year. I am under the ENT consultant who is at a loss to explain why I get it so much! He prescribes antibiotics whenever I get one of these bouts, but he encourages me to try my own experiments to prevent infection so I don't end up on antibiotics all the time (this will be my second dose in three months).

Has anyone else had recurring sinus infections and if so, what have you found (if anything) that has helped prevent them?

I find acupuncture really helps my sinus problems. My dentist had been doing a course and suggested it as i was always congested. Got the first couple as a freebie tester.

Yes I can, Yes I am, Yes I did...Repeat.
I used to ..then I had an op...I think it was called a septopomy..any way something like that. I also had my sinuses drained and they had to re shape some of the bones somehow...oh and I had gromits in my ears ... when i woke up from the op I had two HUGE tampons stuck inside my skull and I couldnt breathe except through my mouth for 24 hours. My mouth was exceptionally sore from the oxygen tube during th eop so that was incredibly painful. Then at 4 am the nurse from hell arrived, woke me up and yanked the tampons out ...it felt like my brain had been pulled out..I have never yelled louder in my life:ohmy:.

Other than that I would recommend the experiencexx(xx(B)

I hear you! Lol!

I had a septorhinoplasty a few years back to improve my breathing; my ENT man says that if all else fails I'll need sinus surgery ... at least this time I won't need a plaster cast on my nose for two weeks! That was awful ...

I may have a go at the acupuncture though, as suggested by lazyfatgit!

I was a bit doubtful about the acupuncture, but I can honestly say i've not had any beconase from the quack since. (despite a deviated septum and several allergies)

I've had chronic sinusitis for 38 years. At the moment it's pretty bad and I'm getting lots of facial pain and horrible gunge dripping down the back of my throat.

The Dr says I could take things for it and mess around with inhalers but he didn't think it would make much difference.

I just live with it.

I had a general checkup last week and got an A1 result.

I've had problems with nasal polyps for the last 20 years and have had four operations to remove them during that time. They always return again after another few years, due to chronic rhinitis (unspecified allergy).

Last year I was suffering with repeated sinus infections and had three courses of antibiotics in about six months. A consultant suggested that the polyps (which had returned) were preventing proper drainage of the sinuses, hence the infections. I didn't want to have another operation as the after-effects of the last one were such an awful experience, and the consultant was amazed that I'd never been prescribed a course of steroids which, he said, work well with some people for a few months or more. I took a one week course of steroids and my nose cleared completely for a whole year (with no further sinus problems), and I recently took a second course with immediate results again.

Sorry for a rather long-winded account, but there may be something of help or, at least, part of a process of elimination.
