I was trying to think about something to post about and couldn't think of anything. I thought about Oliver Cromwell: was he a good guy or a bad guy, but that might be a bit unsafe. Then I thought Florence Nightingale: her reputation has declined in recent decades. She did not even get into the BBC top ten Britons list, which ridiculously included Princess Diana and John Lennon. Confirmation that the country really is full of stupid people. I think Florence Nightingale was one of the greatest reformers Britain ever had. If she had been a man she would have been the greatest statesman of the C19th imho.

You beat me to it. She was one of the first to use data visualisation to illustrate a statistical point, and one of the first to use statistics to improve health.

Her name has some noteriety in the NHS in that a line in the Griffith's Report said something like.....If Florence Nightingale was walking around a hospital today with her lamp she would be looking for who was in charge...
