If your wife likes shopping avoid the outlet malls or take lots of money!!

As above - avoid the summer. We go in April and the weather is usually perfect.

Park tickets shop around -there are lots of offers to be had and pre-book fast passes at Disney weeks before you go otherwise you end up queuing for hours. Your kids are a similar age to mine and they love the parks.

If you are driving buy a proper road map.

Or get US maps for your sat nav

Be prepared for a long wait at Customs and Immigration, and to be dealt with by some of the surliest, rudest and most officious people in the world (they give the Israelis a run for their money).

That's avoidable by not returning to the UK via Heathrow or Gatwick. Use one of the more civilised regional airports.

It's going into the USA that can be an issue not coming back.

We've flown to the USA via Dublin and you clear US Customs there and then just walk off at the other end and pick up your bags. Much better than waiting in a 2 hr queue after a long flight.
